There are few things that are more painful to the victims and the perpetrators than the incidents of domestic violence. This sad and shameful condition is present in every world society and in every walk of life. No community, no social class, no ethnicity and no country in the world is spared. The victims can be men or women. But it is the children who live in these conditions that suffer the most.
The causes of domestic violence are many and varied but they all have devastating and long lasting effects to all those concerned. I was quite stunned to read that the cause of this particular incident was one partner’s desire for higher education
Stay Well.

Insecurity. Brought on by either one partner’s negative reaction to another, or by self-doubt, leading to a feeling of the world being generally a threat. Always. Reading that story, I wondered. Was the husband angry that he was not consulted about the higher education, or the feeling that he could lose his wife as he knows her? Either way, sad.

Domestic violence causes far more pain than the visible marks of bruises and scars. It is devastating to be abused by someone that you love and think loves you in return.

You’re right Carol – must be a really bad case of insecurity especially if leading to this. Hazel when you study cases such as these it is difficult to imagine that they even share anything that can be called love.
Thanks and stay well

I was once a victim but no more. The above is case of someone who wants the wifey to be always at his mercy.

I have been brought up in a family where movies unfolded right in front of my eyes. It forced me to grow with a silent world inside me because I developed a phobia for violence and violent people. All that pain soaked up in one heart, with no one to talk to, I ran away from home for a couple of times, been a street boy, wandering Nairobi like a homeless boy. But thank God I live today to tell of these accounts, so I can send messages of peace and love to families out there. I’d never want any child to go through what I went through. It’s devastating, very devastating. All I want is for parents to realize that fighting in front of their children kills us.

“I was quite stunned to read that the cause of this particular incident was one partner’s desire for higher education”…I’m also quite stunned when I read that. Sad story indeed. 🙁

Incidents like these shouldn’t happen in an ideal world, but then we don’t live in such a world.
Happy 2012 Woolie!

violence against the weak and helpless should be punished severely regardless of its context.

Sigh…..This is why some cultural practices have to be fought on all fronts……It may not even be insecurity as such but the whole belief that a woman should be lower than the man in all fronts meaning that even the quest for higher education is seen as ‘kumea pembe’.This is harrowing…..

The worst thing is that it happens in our very homes. The place where we should feel safe from the world. How sad. 🙁

Sadly we had one such case of a woman that came to my city to study. When she returned home to her husband beat her severely, tried to gouge out her eyes and bit her all over. He is now dead and she is now blind but back to try and finish her education with the help of well wishers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16032728
